Our School Portfolio
Education for Change is a unique charter management organization in that we manage a diverse portfolio of schools. Although all EFC schools have a strong focus on teacher collaboration, teacher leadership, data analysis and providing rigorous academics, the instructional programs through which this is accomplished varies by school.
ASCEND is a K-8 school in the Fruitvale neighborhood implementing an expeditionary learning and arts integrated program. The mission of ASCEND is to close the achievement gap in Oakland. To make a positive difference in the lives of young people, ASCEND offers engaging and rigorous instruction and build strong relationships between parents, teachers/staff, students and community.
Cox Academy is a K-5 school in East Oakland providing rigorous instruction in the core content areas while fostering critical thinking, problem solving and application of learning to prepare students for success in higher education. Cox is committed to creating student leaders who are stewards of the greater community. Cox focuses on the whole child by providing a systemic wrap-around program focused with a comprehensive system of supports and interventions for children and families.
Epic is EFC’s newest school, and is slated to open August 2014 in the Fruitvale neighborhood of East Oakland. Epic is a middle school and will start by serving 168 6th grade students for the 2014-2015 school year and will grow to serve over 500 6th-8th grade students by the 2016-2017 school year. Epic is a science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) school offering a unique educational experience to fully engage students in a rigorous curriculum and bring joy to learning through a personalized and immersive educational experience.
Lazear Charter Academy is a K-8 school opening in the Fruitvale neighborhood. Lazear is EFC’s first Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) school, and we are excited to be actively integrating technology and utilizing Engineering is Elementary and Project Lead the Way engineering curricula to build student capacity to apply their learning and understanding to create powerful solutions to real-world problems.
Learning Without Limits is a K-5 school in the Fruitvale neighborhood that believes strongly in the balance between constructivist learning and knowledge-based learning using culturally relevant pedagogy.
World and Achieve Academies serve K-5 students in the Fruitvale neighborhood and together, are one of the highest performing elementary campuses in Oakland. World and Achieve implement rigorous, research based curriculum across grade levels that highlights flexible thinking and problem solving using multiple strategies.
